The software Development
Practice is the part of the Business Application Solutions (BAS) part
of SI which provides specialists in software development in .NET and
Java. In addition to Application Developers and Designers, there are
Analysts, Architects, Team Leaders and Project Managers with experience
of these technologies. This part of BAS also leads aspects of software
development best practice in these technologies across the Company.
We are currently looking for a .Net Developer / Designer to work
initially on one of our health sector accounts. These roles are based
in Livingston & you will work on this account for a period of time
but at some stage it is likely that you will move onto other accounts /
projects so you need to be fully UK mobile, ie be prepared to work
anywhere in the UK.
Key duties include:

- Responsible for the development of complex code in a .NET
environment to time & budget to meet given requirement using a
methodical, thorough & structured approach in a quality controlled
environment
- Responsible for developing the solution into a full technical
specification that can be directly implemented by Software Developers
working in association with the systems analyst
- Has technical responsibility for work performed & decisions taken.
- Provides advice & guidance on technical matters. May supervise others
- Performs work that requires the application of a significant range of fundamental principles in a variety of contexts.
- Develops an understanding of the relationship of own
specialisation or area of responsibility to the employing organization
as a whole and takes customer requirements fully into account when
making proposals and/or carrying out work.
- Takes initiative to keep skills up to date and maintain awareness of developments in the IS industry.
- Responsible for some project management functions. Designers
may be required to act as a Technical Delivery Manager working
alongside & complementing a non-technical Team Leader.
- Liaises with clients and deals with subordinates, peers and management in the client organisation.
Job requirements
Core skills & experience:
- Proficiency in the .Net framework (esp C#.Net) with exp of at
least one development/test tool. Exposure to end-to-end process of
software development. For more senior positions candidates will have
clear evidence of real technical expertise and/or design experience.
- Familiar with the use of development process or methodology (e.g. DSDM, RAD, RUP)
- Experience of ASP.NET,
- Experience of .Net 3.0/3.5, Sharepoint (esp MOSS2007), BizTalk
Server or SQLServer, AJAX libraries (Microsoft,Yahoo UI,XSLT or
REST-services would be advantageous, as would Microsoft .Net 3.0 and/or
3.5 - WCF and WF.
- Build - experience of developing code of medium complexity to
time & budget, using methodical & structured approach in a
quality controlled environment.
- Design - produce outline system specifications for a
moderately complex system & translate logical design into physical
design taking into account target environment, non-functional
requirements (performance, usability, maintainability), interfaces to
existing systems, producing documents to required standards & from
which others can develop code.
- System Test - create test scripts from functional
specifications & non-functional requirements to be executed by self
& others. Interpret & execute simple to complex test scripts
& documents results, using issued standards. Set up system test
environments – analyse requirements for test data.
- Able to provide technical input to both analysis & design phases.
- Experience of working on at least one successful large IT programme/project
Key attributes:
- Preferable, but not essential, to have 2:1 degree in numerate discipline.
- Preferable, but not essential, to have MCP / MCAD / MCSD in .NET.
